Exciting news - NEW pay machines at the Water Gardens and new ways to pay!


We're thrilled to announce that the Water Gardens has just installed brand new car park pay equipment! Making it easier for you to park and pay...

1. Park and remember your registration

2. Shop and enjoy the Water Gardens

3. When ready to leave, enter your registration at the pay station* and pay for your parking - all payment methods now accepted!

Tariffs will remain the same. Spend £5.00 or more in Asda or Matalan and claim a refund on your first 2 hours parking. They will give you a ticket which you can scan at the pay machine to deduct 2 hours from your parking fee.

*3 payment machines located in ASDA foyer lower car park, outside ASDA on upper car park, and outside Matalan!



We understand that a new parking system will take a bit of getting used to, so we have compiled some frequently asked questions to help:

Q. Do I need the bay number?

A. No. The bay numbers are no longer required, you just need your vehicle registration number.


Q. How does the system know how much to charge me?

A. The cameras at the car park entrance read your vehicle registration when you enter. When you are ready to leave and input your registration into the pay station the system calculates how long you have stayed and charges you accordingly.


Q. Do I need to pay to pick someone up / drop someone off?

A. The system has a 10 minute grace period and if you stay less than that time you do not need to pay. This time limit will be reviewed over the coming weeks if we feel it needs to be extended.


Q. What happens if I do not pay at all?

A. If you do not pay, the parking management company could send you a penalty charge of up  to £70.


Q. Do I still get a discount if I shop in Asda or Matalan?

A. Yes. If you spend over £5.00 in these shops, the staff there will give you a voucher which can be redeemed at the pay station when you are leaving.


Q. Why has the system changed?

A. The change is based on feedback from customers about how they would like to shop and pay. The old system did not allow anything other than coin payments and did not give change. This system not only accepts notes and gives change but also accepts chip and pin, contactless and Apple Pay methods. Customers also  told us that they did not want to guess how long they were going to be visiting us for. The new systems means you only pay for the length of your visit and not a minute more.


Q. What can I do if I have a problem?

A. We have a number of customer service staff dedicated to the car park and at all of the pay stations that are there to help you. If you cannot find anyone, please give us a call on 01279 453554 and we will come to you.


Q. What do I do if I am worried about receiving a penalty charge in the post?

A. Don't worry! We know that the system is new and is going to take a little time to get used to. If you do not believe you have paid correctly, please contact us on and we will help you.


Q. The queues seem quite long at peak times. Are there enough pay machines?

A. During the first few weeks of the system we are expecting the queues to be longer than normal during peak periods whilst our customers get used to it. During this period we will do everything we can to assist you and keep the queues moving as quickly as possible. We thank you for your patience with this. We believe that once our visitors feel more comfortable with the system, these queues will be significantly shorter, but we are keeping an open mind and will continue to review the number of pay stations.
